White House Aims To Cut Opioid Prescriptions 33% by 2022

The Trump administration seeks cut opioid prescription fills by 33 percent in three years through better education and adherence to pain-management prescribing practices, according to a May 3 report from the Office of National Drug Control Policy.
Four things to know:
1. The report outlines nine goals the White House hopes to accomplish by 2022 as part of a larger effort to address America’s opioid crisis.
2. A major goal focuses on reducing national overdose deaths by 15 percent within five years.
3. Another goal aims to achieve a 15 percent decrease in illicit drug use among youth by 2022.
4. The Trump administration also outlined plans for 20 percent of specialty treatment facilities to provide medication-assisted treatment by 2022.
