The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) is a non-profit organization that evaluates and accredits health plans based on their quality and performance. The NCQA Health Plan Accreditation program provides a framework for assessing the quality of health plans and ensuring that they meet certain standards.
For 2023, the NCQA Health Plan Accreditation program has undergone several updates to reflect changes in the healthcare industry and to improve the quality of care provided by health plans. Some of the key updates include:
- Telehealth Standards: The NCQA has updated its standards to ensure that health plans provide high-quality telehealth services. This includes ensuring that health plans have policies and procedures in place for telehealth visits, as well as ensuring that telehealth visits are conducted in a secure and confidential manner.
- Medication Management Standards: The NCQA has updated its medication management standards to ensure that health plans are providing safe and effective medication management to their members. This includes ensuring that health plans have systems in place to identify and address medication errors, as well as ensuring that members have access to appropriate medication information and education.

This includes ensuring that health plans have policies and procedures in place for behavioral health assessments, as well as ensuring that members have access to appropriate behavioral health services and resources.
- Health Equity Standards: The NCQA has updated its health equity standards to ensure that health plans are addressing health disparities and promoting health equity among their members. This includes ensuring that health plans are collecting and using data to identify and address health disparities, as well as ensuring that members have access to culturally and linguistically appropriate health services.
- Data and Analytics Standards: The NCQA has updated its data and analytics standards to ensure that health plans are collecting and using data to improve the quality of care provided to their members.
